Join GO’s Board of Directors and help ICSD students in need get the support they deserve.

Board Impact
Golden Opportunity (GO) provides free one-on-one tutoring and mentorship to students in grades 2 - 8 in the Ithaca City School District. Board members help shape GO’s mission and advocate for ICSD’s most vulnerable community. By maintaining the infrastructure to support tutoring, board members directly impact the lives of students in need of additional academic and emotional support. In addition, board members play a role in policy development, strategic programming, and networking as it pertains to stewarding donors, recruiting new tutors, and contributing to the financial health and sustainability of the organization.

Board Expectations
Board members use their varied talents to support GO’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging programming with a commitment to viewing student needs through a lens of compassion and love. Board members attend a monthly board meeting and one committee meeting, and respond to emails as needed. General or specific abilities in the areas of policy development, strategic planning, marketing, recruitment, and event management experience are needed at this time.

Time commitment
Board members spend, on average, three to four hours per month attending board meetings, committee meetings, and events or activities.

Financial commitment
Board members commit to supporting GO through an annual pledge that is comfortable for their income levels.

GO welcomes the generous contributions of new members and would love to have you join our board or serve as a committee member. Committee members do not have to be full Board members but can give their time and talents to GO with a specific focus. Examples include:

- Special Events Committee (fundraisers and tutor recruitment events)
- Marketing Task Force
- Donor Outreach Development
- Grant writing and research
- Education Committee / Liaison with ICSD
